You may use any type of bike you want. I suggest you pick up a beater at the Urban Bike Project. They have everything you need to build a bike, including the tools.

Contrary to popular misconception a fixed gear bike is not required, most people actually prefer single speed bikes with a freewheel.

If you are building a dedicated polo bike it is recommended to use a rear brake with the lever mounted to whichever side of the handlebar is opposite your mallet hand.  Mallets like to get stuck in between spokes, so you should build a disk wheel.

Bring a helmet!

We can supply you with a bike polo mallet.

Building a mallet is not hard if you have the right tools. You can easily make one from an old ski pole and some HDPE piping. Pipe outer diameter size approx 2 1/4 inches, inner diameter approx 1 3/4 inches.  PVC is not recommended as it can shatter.   Step-by-step directions
